Meet Dr. Maruko
Dr. Evelyn Y. Maruko D.M.D., M.S., M.P.H
Orthodontic Specialist, Creative, Coach, Leader, Knowledge Lover, Seeker of Beauty in Form, Nature, Craftsmanship, and Design
I'm Doctor Maruko, of Maruko Orthodontics, where we Embrace the Art and Health of beautiful smiles.
I combine 25+ years of orthodontic experience with:
*Additional training on impact of airway issues that affect people of all ages and span more than five disciplines of medicine and dentistry
*More than twenty years in personal development including a Certification as a Jungian Life Coach
*Three dental study clubs
*A life time interest in the arts
*And passion for creating not just beautiful smiles but ones that take into consideration a personal overall health and confidence.
A great smile that also improves health allows patients to feel great and feel comfortable expressing themselves at work, at school, with their friends.
ON a personal note...
I had airway issues as a child with frequent cold, strep throat, and allergies. A child’s ability to breathe affects the growth of their face and may affect their performance in school and in sports. I believe that orthodontics must consider this.
As an adult, there can be serious consequences and I believe affects the long term stability of their orthodontic treatment.
You might laugh, but when I was young, I hated the dentist. I was always in fear of having yet another cavity despite my best efforts, foreign sounds, people talking over my head, and fear that things would hurt. So, we keep this in mind when working with our patients.
At a young age I was exposed to the arts, taking art classes at Chapman College and Bower's museum as well as my own backyard with my mother as the arts and crafts leader of the neighborhood.
My background in dance helps me understand dental health as an integration of physiologiology, beauty, movement, and human expression.
At USC, I found my love for the field of psychology, and I was invited to the Thematic Option program which is their honors general education with fewer than thirty science majors, a rigorous writing program, art history, and philosophy.
My interest in Psychology started in college at USC. For four years I've been studying Jungian Psychology which helps me uncover the depths of true expression and creativity. Currently, I am in a one years certificate program at Pacifica University.
